A number of Shropshire Law firms had merged or been acquired by other companies over the last few years. These include Turnbull Garrard Solicitors, Moss & Poulton Solicitors, Scott Lister Solicitors, Linder Myers Solicitors and Terry Jones Solicitors.

Your will may have been prepared by one of the following solicitors: Michael Limbrey, David Poulton, Anna James, Bridget Marshall or Stuart Lister.

Custody of your will may have been transferred to us as those firms have now ceased trading.

Some of these were closed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (‘SRA’) on 14 December 2022. This is called an intervention.

Some of the firms still trading at the time, including Linder Myers Solicitors and Terry Jones Solicitors were under the Metamorph Group Ltd. Gordons LLP of 1 New Augustus Street, Bradford, BD1 5LL have been appointed to help the SRA with the closure of these firms. Gordons LLP are the SRA’s Intervention Agent.

 What does this mean?

If you were a client of any of these firms they can no longer act for you. You will need to find another lawyer to act. Gordons are not acting for you.

 What’s happened to my file?

The SRA has collected all clients’ files for ongoing transactions which were in the firms’ offices at the time of the intervention.

If your will was with Terry Jones Solicitors, custody of your file was passed to Ashton & Co before the intervention, so we have you will safely held with us.

Powers of Attorney from the Shrewsbury office are also held by Ashton & Co Legal Services Ltd.

This information only applies to wills and powers of attorney made with Terry Jones (Shrewsbury), Linder Myers (Shrewsbury), Turnbull Garrard, Moss & Poulson or Scott Lister, and stored at the Shrewsbury office of Terry Jones.

If one of the firms have been acting for you on something which was ongoing and your file has been recovered, Gordons or the SRA will write to tell you and ask where you want your file to be sent.

You or your new lawyer should let Gordons know quickly where you want your file to be sent as there might be important time limits.

You might be able to help Ashton & Co., or other solicitors, to make progress for you without your file by sending them any correspondence/documents you received before the intervention. They may also be able to get information directly from any other solicitors/organisations involved in the case.

What do I need to do if I want my files sending to Ashton & Co?

Gordons will need your consent to do this. You can email [email protected]. Please include contact details for Ashton & Co. in your email.

If there are two or more of you named as clients, you all/both need to agree and tell Gordons.

Please contact Ashton & Co Solicitors if you are unsure of anything or you would like more information, and we will be happy to help.
